“It was the first time in my young life I was seeing and hearing country music, this was completely rock and roll,” he said.
“It was about regional people, Australia, farmers and the bush and it was a real watershed moment for me.
“I thought I’d love to play this park, and for the very first time this year that’s happening.”
The 2004 Star Maker winner added another notch to his belt on Wednesday, inducted into the Galaxy of Stars.
Nominated for four Golden Guitar awards for Brave and the Broken with more to write about than ever, he’s been able to tell his story bruises and all, he said.
“I’ve been honest about a bunch of things that are going on and stopped creating who I thought I had to be on a record,” he said.
