ACT/NSW Country will be hoping it is a case of second time lucky when they contest the one-day final at the Female Under-18 Championships in Ballarat on Friday.
The side featuring Tamworth’s Jess Davidson and Lara Graham set up a match-up with NSW Metro for the silverware with a thumping nine-wicket final round win over Northern Territory.
Davidson and Graham were both key figures in the victory, which was set up with the ball.
Opening the bowling Graham was a bit wayward at times but effective, finishing with 3-26 off her six overs, while Davidson snared 3-2 off her three overs as they rolled Northern Territory for only 78.
In reply ACT/NSW Country chased the runs down in 14 overs one wicket down for a double bonus point win.
It’s their third bonus point win in as many games and saw them finish on top of the table.
ACT/NSW Country are the defending champions after beating NSW Metro, who pipped the Cricket Australia XI for second, by one wicket in a nail-biting final last year.
They will be hoping to fare better than they did in the Twenty20 final earlier in the tournament when they were outgunned by Queensland.
EARLIER:
The ACT/NSW Country side comprising young Tamworth tyros Jess Davidson and Lara Graham are on the cusp of a second finals berth at the Cricket Australia Female Under-18 Championships.
After, unsuccessfully, contesting the Twenty20 final on Saturday, the defending one-day champions are one of three sides on two wins in the one-day competition heading into Wednesday’s final round games.
They sit one point clear of the Cricket Australia XI and NSW Metro courtesy of their double bonus point win over Victoria Country on Sunday.
On Monday they accounted for Victoria Metro, a miserly allround bowling performance setting up the seven wicket win.

The sixth bowler used she went at just over a run an over finishing with 1-10 off her eight.
She then guided them to victory with an unbeaten 18 off 22 as ACT/NSW Country chased down the runs in 35 overs and with seven wickets in hand for a bonus point win.
After a rest day on Tuesday they face Northern Territory on Wednesday.
A win should be enough to secure them a spot in Thursday’s final.
