Police had “grave concerns” for the 34-year-old who remains in John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle but on Monday police said his condition had slightly improved after emergency surgery.
James Andrew Creighton remains behind bars, charged with the attempted murder of the man as well as his girlfriend, and wounding his mother.
Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy said the 40-year-old mother was listed as stable in John Hunter while the younger woman was recovering in Tamworth hospital.
“The assistance from the public in this incident is very much appreciated,” he said on Monday.
“The efforts of local police, police from the festival and the dog handler led to the swift arrest of a 21-year-old man.”
