A horse just walked up the back steps of The Imperial Brewhouse and a trumpeter joined her on stage.
“This horse just walks up the steps and into a bar,” she said.
“It just went right inside.
“I just thought, ‘This is a trippy gig, is this real? Am I dreaming?’”
Native to New Zealand, Direen’s music gains more depth every year she gets older.
“I’m getting to know myself better,” she said.

Direen is recording her fourth album in April for a June or July release and plans to peel back the sound and go back to her roots.
She’ll be playing a number of shows in Tamworth until Friday January 25.
