Level 1 water restrictions for Tamworth was one of our first announcements for the year that came into effect on the 14 th January.
The expansion of Chaffey Dam has proven to be vital, but there certainly can be more done to ensure both water security and conservation improves. I encourage everyone to be aware of what Level 1 water restrictions mean to you by visiting www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/waterrestrictions or popping in to one of our offices.
The Tamworth Country Music Festival is now upon us with people streaming in from all over Australia and abroad to a packed schedule of events at numerous locations across the town.
We anticipate to have record numbers, despite the usual summer festival heat that arrives at the same time this year. I will be attending events across the festival, and look forward to seeing our locals out and about enjoying our wonderful city, facilities and event.
A first for this year, is the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA) ‘The Great Australian Roundup’ event at AELEC. The Roundup is a fairground atmosphere involving competition, displays and activities across many interest areas.
These include stockman’s challenge, sheering displays, sheepdog trials, family games and amusements, a rodeo, ute and truck displays as well as antique machinery displays.
In regards to what is happening around your local streets, you may have noticed driving west along Peel street the Viaduct Park Youth Recreational Project has now commenced.
I went with the Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson, to view the plans on site and see the commencement of the ground works this week. The project is set to be completed by June this year and will really bring alive that end of Peel Street.
The intersection at Brown’s Lane and Moore Creek Road construction works has now commenced and there are some traffic diversions in place there whilst this takes place.
This intersection is a busy location and when finished will really improve safety.
Council made an application to the department of Premier and Cabinet’s, Growing Local Economies Fund, last year with an announcement made last week of our application being successful. The application was for $7.8 million for the construction of a low-level crossing in Manilla.
The low-level crossing will cross over the Namoi River parallel to the Manilla Bridge in Arthur Street from Market Street to Lloyd Street.
Council have committed to funding 10% of this project and look forward to seeing this get underway to support the development and liveability for Manilla residents.
We have many great projects that will roll out 2019 and I look forward to sharing with you information about them in the near future. Until then, stay safe and well hydrated in our summer season!
