A recent study by TAFE NSW of the Gunnedah and Tamworth region has forecast exciting employment growth areas in the health, community services and construction industries over the next two years.
The study predicted growth in full-time employment opportunities as a result of a current skills shortage, aging population and exciting investments in the region.
The region is experiencing a shortage of local, skilled workers in a number of areas including aged and disabled care, pre-primary school teaching and childcare, construction and hospitality.
Our population is aging and the construction and development of a number of new health care and childcare facilities will continue to generate increased demand for skilled workers, key factors that will open the doors to many exciting potential employment opportunities.
A total of 32 courses will be available at TAFE NSW Gunnedah in semester one 2019, a significant commitment to ensuring the evolving needs of the local community are being met.
I’ve been working with local Gunnedah businesses and key stakeholders like the Gunnedah Shire Council, who have identified a number of areas where the training offered at TAFE NSW didn’t quite fulfil the needs of the community.
It is incredibly exciting that 11 of the 32 courses available at TAFE NSW Gunnedah in semester one 2019, were not offered last year.
This proves that the NSW Government is delivering on our promises and ensuring TAFE NSW responds to Gunnedah’s changing economy and needs.
One of the highlights of the new courses is the re-introduction of a Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication Trade).
Because of an increase in apprentices requiring engineering training in the region, this course is will be delivered in Gunnedah by TAFE NSW, for the first time since 2011.
Add to this a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, Certificate III in Civil Construction (Plant Operations), Certificate II in Horticulture, a number of short courses and a range of online courses available through TAFE Digital, you can see that TAFE NSW is reaffirming itself as the number one training provider for the region.
TAFE is also Australia’s largest education and training provider and will continue to innovate and invest in courses to meet the skills needs of Gunnedah and Tamworth.
TAFE NSW delivers the skills that drive a strong economy, support vibrant communities and help individuals, enterprises and industries to adapt and thrive.
With more than 1200 face-to-face and online courses available for 2019, and with current and future job prospects for Gunnedah and the New England region looking bright, I encourage the community to visit TAFE NSW to find out how you can up-skill or re-skill to pursue employment opportunities.
