In fact, by midday chairs already held poll positions in front of the huge Toyota stage ready for dusk to fall.
And, they were in luck. With a stellar lineup already crowds were shocked when surprise guest Adam Harvey walked on stage.
I have been coming to the festival since I was 16 and Ive never missed one, he said.
I just turned 44 and its become our annual family holiday, we love it here.
What an honour to be part of the Opening Concert, I think the country music in the part and the fireworks are a fantastic way to kick off the festival.

As the sun finally set, revellers turned their eyes to the sky for a spectacular show of fireworks at 9pm before meandering back to their caravans and homes to rest.
For those who missed Adam Harvey at the opening concert, he has another show at Wests Tamworth on Saturday at 8:30pm.
