So it was only fitting for Ifield to be the latest the bronze bust to be unveiled along the parade of country music legends in Bicentennial Park.
A “humbled” Ifield reflected on his career and paid tribute to his idol Chad Morgan, who performed before the unveiling and has his own bust just a few metres away.
“My dad always told me: to make it in this business you have to be yourself,” Ifield said.
“I didn’t really understand what that meant until I saw Chad on the Australian Amateur Hour, doing something entirely unique.
“He gave me the courage to get on there, and while I didn’t quite win it like Chad did – I came second – it still led to a record deal.”
Tamworth Bronze Bust Committee worked hard to pull off the latest addition, with a fundraising concert during last year’s Hats Off to Country Music Festival.
