The massive London plane trees are the perfect place to enjoy that quiet coffee and tasty treats served by the church people of Tamworth during the country music festival.
The café will operate Monday to Saturday 9am to 9pm, with gentle live gospel music and lots more – and it’s all free.
The kids’ program for 5- to 12-year-olds runs Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm. This year welcomes the Quiz Works puppet team from Sydney as well as an army of local leaders.
Each evening, the Gospel amphitheatre comes alive for a free twilight concert, with artists like Mark Moulynox, Soul Survivor and Steve Grace. With 20 albums and a million miles of concert tours behind him, Steve has a wealth of outback ethos to share.
Back in Peel Street, there’s a dedicated gospel busking spot outside Kelly’s Real Estate opposite Coles.
Saturday is Australia Day and Tamworth kicks it off at 7.30am with the official Australia Day service in the Darling Street community centre, followed by breakfast.
Keynote speaker is multi-Golden Guitar winner Brendon Walmsley, with Mark Moulynox and Carter & Carter leading the music.
You’ll also find a cheery welcome from the traffic wardens at the Kable Avenue entry.
All this wouldn’t be possible without the ongoing support of Tamworth Regional Council, which has opened doors of opportunity to enhance the whole program.
The churches of Tamworth are getting right into the festival, with gospel concerts and gospel services at St John’s, C3, Southside Uniting, Hallsville Uniting and the Salvo’s Country Kitchen.
Some artists will be performing at aged care facilities.
Call in at the Gospel Zone to pick up a gospel gig guide listing all the gospel events around town. It’s free, of course.
