Thunderbolts vice-president Tracey Pitt said the tour was “a great experience” for the local players.
“All of our players put in a great effort not only on the tour, but also when qualifying for the squads back in September,” Pitt said.
“For the first time the metro and country teams were mixed together, which I think really allowed everyone to have fun and meet new people.”
Taking part in six games over the three-day tour, the players were also treated to sports science talks at the University of Newcastle.
“The talks covered things like preparation and nutrition, which was really helpful,” Pitt said.
“Really, there was a lot our players can take out of the tour, not just on the court, but a lot of really useful information for off the court as well.”
Pitt said the “pathway tour” will help prepare the group for further representative honours in the future.
“There really was a professional feel about the whole thing,” she said.
“From the talks at the university, to going for recovery sessions at the beach every day, the kids really got a taste of what it is like at the elite level.
“I think this experience will hold them in really good stead for their futures.”
Upon returning home, the group will now look ahead to the upcoming local and representative basketball seasons.
