After the being released in November, the song had clocked up more than 50,000 views on Spotify before Christmas and the video had been watched more than 22,000 times on Facebook.
Atkins wrote the song with Kirsty Lee Akers during a songwriting trip to the eastern states more than 12 months ago.
When asked by Akers what direction I wanted to go in, the young singer told the 2007 Star Maker winner she was after a song with attitude.
“I wanted something a bit different to the other songs I’ve released,” Atkins said.
The result was a song that tells the story of a girl who has been hurt time and time again, and eventually realises that she never listened to the advice given to her as a child - that life could go this way.
“It’s been amazing,” Atkins said about the response she has received since releasing the song.
“I think it got to #5 on the iTunes Country Music Chart, which was amazing to debut at that.”
Add that to the Spotify clicks, after it was added to the Fresh Country playlist, and the Facebook hits, and
“We’re aiming for the 100,000 (on Spotify),” Atkins said. “Hopefully we’ll get there.”
Atkins is again making the long journey from Western Australia to play at Tamworth Country Music Festival.
The young artist started a new event at last year’s festival, which is again on the program.
Escape Into Song was held under a different name for the first time, over six days, during last year’s festival.
Each gig featured three artists, in a round format, performing and telling the stories behind their songs.
This year the Escape Into Song shows will be held at Hopscotch Restaurant & Bar in Kable Ave and Atkins has teamed up with Canadian artist Amy Nelson to run the event.
Atkins’ first festival performance is at Fan Zone on Saturday, January 19 at 1pm, and she is also playing at Chalkie White’s concert at Moonshiners.
