FIREFIGHTERS have warned boot scooters to avoid fires during Tamworth Country Music Festival.

With hundreds of visitors expected to stay at campgrounds and caravan parks, Fire and Rescue NSW will focus on community safety.
“Nearly half of all fires we attend are the result of unattended cooking,” Fire and Rescue New England zone commander Tom Cooper said.

“So we’re urging festival-goers to keep looking when cooking, avoid cooking under the influence of alcohol and never leave a lit barbecue, stove or campfire unattended.”
Firefighters will visit campsites to check caravans, campervans and RV’s for smoke alarms, they are legally required.
In a fire there are just few seconds to escape a burning caravan, Mr Cooper said.
“A working smoke alarm can mean the difference between life and death," he said.
