Wilson will the lead the club’s reserve grade side as a playing-coach in season 2019.
Arriving at the club in 2016, Wilson experienced immediate success as part of Werris Creek’s second division premiership side, which prompted his retirement talks.
“I actually came across from the Tamworth Swans after my wife started playing league tag for Werris Creek,” Wilson said.
“To be honest I had very little senior premiership experience, so to win one in my first year at the club was something really special.
“I had contemplated retiring after that flag but after discussing it with my father, who is a big reason I came back to rugby league, he told me to ‘keep playing as long as you can’.
“So I will keep going for as long as I’m able to.”

Wilson said despite only being with the Magpies for three seasons, he had a strong connection the club.
“I have played in a lot of country towns for a lot of clubs, across three codes and I haven’t experienced anywhere quite like here,” Wilson said.
“It’s a football town, most of the people here live for the football club and are really invested in how it’s going.
“Really, there’s no club like Werris Creek.”
Wilson said he was prepared to juggle his career as a police officer with his new coaching duties.
“I think at this stage I have worked it so I might only miss two games due to work,” he said.
“There will be a few occasions where I will be going to games inbetween working night shifts, I’ve been doing that since I started in the job eight years ago so it’s nothing I’m not used to.”
Wilson will work closely with the Magpies first grade coaching staff of Ron Dellar and Matt Parsons, who helped guide the side to a fourth-place finish on the ladder in 2018.
“It will be a bit different this year with two teams but at this stage everyone is a first grade player,” Wilson said.
“The interest we have received from the guys playing this year has been good and along with Ronnie and Matty it should hopefully be a successful year.”
