LEVEL one water restrictions will be in effect from today for people living in Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal.
Tamworth Regional Council announced it would enforce restrictions after Chaffey Dam fell below the 40 per cent capacity trigger more than a week ago.
Under level one restrictions, residents are prohibited from using fixed sprinklers outside of the time between 6pm and 8pm in the evening.
Council’s water director, Bruce Logan, hoped the restrictions would be able to reduce the city’s daily consumption to 20 to 25 megalitres per day.
In previous weeks, daily water consumption in Tamworth was recorded at 39 megalitres.
Level two restrictions are enforced in Tamworth when Chaffey falls below 35 per cent capacity.
Those restrictions could be in place within weeks.
Nundle is currently on level three, while Manilla is already at level two and Bendemeer had level one recently applied.
Barraba and Attunga are on permanent water conservation measures.
