Tucked discretely between the CH Hotel buildings on Brisbane Street, Tamworth High art teacher Sandy Rixon has been hosting art classes for kids aged four to 12 at The Loft Art Studio.
Following the theme of “Night at the Museum”, kids have been encouraged to get hands-on with different mediums and see where their art takes them.

“I think it is more like a Montessori-type thing; it’s about what they are drawn to and they find out what strengths they’ve got,” Ms Rixon said.
“It’s good for their motor skills, it’s hands-on, it’s tactile.
“And it helps with their confidence.”
Kids are now born in an age of digital ubiquity, but Ms Rixon said education has turned to art to build certain skills.
“We need entertainment and we need creative people so we are seeing it more in schools now,” she said.
Ms Rixon will be running one more week of art classes during the summer holidays.
The next three-day program starts on Monday, January 14. The classes run from 10am-2pm. Parents interested can contact Ms Rixon at 0447 035 540.
