Tom Aitken produced another outstanding performance as the Tamworth under-13s bounced back from a first day loss to beat Newcastle Presidents at their carnival in Ballina on Tuesday.

After making 44 off 52 and taking 2-20 in a man of the match effort on the first day, Aitken blasted 72 in a 77-ball knock that included four fours to anchor Tamworth’s innings.
Edward Williams also chipped in with 45 as Tamworth posted 8-215 off their 50 overs.
They then rolled Newcastle for 127, Harry Lewington the chief destroyer with 3-12.
The rest of the wickets were shared around with Williams, Aitken, Forbes Murdoch, Rex Barwick and Samuel Holmes picking up a wicket apiece.
At Lismore, the under-12s started their campaign with a five wicket win over Illawarra.
Charlie Whale was the man of the match for his unbeaten 30 as Tamworth chased Illawarra’s 3-126. Blake Wicks also made 26.
Newcastle proved a tougher proposition in their second game, Tamworth going down by eight wickets after being bowled out for 59.
At Taree, the under-16s were beaten by North Coast after thrashing West Pennant Hills on Monday, Marcus Ridley (6-15) tearing through the Sydney side as Tamworth defended 6-168.
On Tuesday they again batted first but could only manage 89, opener Mitch Morley the best of the Tamworth batsmen with 29.
In reply North Coast passed the total in the 32nd over.
