The Armidale cyclist claimed his second podium of the titles in Ballarat on Tuesday finishing third in the under-23 time trial.
After three times finishing in the top 10, and winning silver last year, Jenner had spoken heading into the race about his desire to win the gold and getting that monkey off his back.
And while it still eluded him he was pretty happy to make the podium again.
“I suppose a gold medal would have been nice but I can’t be too upset with bronze,” he said.
“I kind of messed up my pacing a bit. I left a bit too much in the tank.”
“I finished and I wasn’t fully empty which is not the best thing for a TT but it was still a good day.”
The last rider to out on the course in the time trial, he finished 36 seconds off winner Liam Magennis, who clocked 38.03.33 minutes for the 29.5km.
“It was a pretty quick day out there,” Jenner said.
“It was quicker than last year’s course.”
Admittedly he would have liked windier conditions.
“For me it’s better if there is a bit more wind. It means it’s a harder course,” he said.
“(But) It was actually quite fun being so quick.”
It was his second bronze of the championships after finishing third in the road race on Saturday, and has, he believes, him good shape for the year ahead.
“It’s not really the time of the year I need to be peaking anyway,” he said.
“My bigger races that I’m targetting are in April and May so I’ve still got a lot of time.”
“I’ve shown a lot of improvement already from last year when I was in my peak time so I think if all goes well I should be in some pretty good shape for the races I want to target.”
Jenner has been named in the KordaMentha Real Estate Australian Team for the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, which runs from January 30 – February .
After that he will head to Turkey for a race enroute to Europe where he will be based for the year, with one of his major missions the under-23 Giro d'Italia.
Competing in the under-19 time trial on Monday, Tamworth’s Luke Deasey was 23rd and Connor Noonan 31st.
