Weather
When the Snowy scheme was being built whole towns were relocated – but I was not aware that, according to a local TV station weather report, Upper Hunter towns were relocated to the North West Slopes and Tablelands.

Scone, Murrurundi, Barrington Tops and the North West Plains were towed some 100km to the east (Wee Waa, Moree, Walgett and Narrabri), as the TV stations is some 700km from the area and outside their mindset it is not surprising.

Cars versus trucks
It would appear that someone, whether it be council or the RMS, didn’t do their homework and look into the impact of having more heavy vehicles travelling on the Back Kootingal Road when allowing extended working hours at the local feed mill.
Whilst I’ve got nothing against the business and I also understand that the grain has to get to the business somehow, the problem lies with the semis that are using the road to deliver the grain.
Some of these trucks are getting bigger and longer, and there’s less room for other road users. Whilst most truckies are pretty careful on the road, there’s a small handful that don’t seem to care.
This road isn’t as wide as it should be, especially on the bends. These trucks are large, heavy vehicles and on numerous occasions they are well over the centre line.
I recently encountered one such truck who appeared to be going a bit faster than he should have been and was over that centre line. I almost ended up smashing into a guide post because of him.
This road wasn’t built to have these big, heavy vehicles constantly use it.
The road surface is deteriorating much quicker now. When holes appear and they are finally patched, it doesn’t take long and the holes are back again.
There’s enough idiots who regularly use this road as it is, without having to contend with these trucks.
Something needs to be done before there’s either a serious accident or fatality.

Tamworth bypass
I agree in a way with what has been said and possibly it would create faster travel times, but to say trucks don’t want to be in town? Well there I disagree. How are drivers meant to get a feed? It’s hard enough to find somewhere to stop, not only in Tamworth but even when travelling long distance etc. Let’s keep that in mind.

Power prices
It was mentioned in the NDL nigh on two weeks ago that the electricity supplier Red Energy was owned by the federal government. What a golden opportunity to make a real difference in power prices by the government by simply cutting the price of electricity by 40-plus per cent, thereby making all suppliers drop prices to match. Or are they too fixated on the profits including GST they make? Come on Scomo, time to make a name for yourself.
