About 2.30pm on Tuesday, police were called to a group home on Johnston Street, North Tamworth, following reports a man had been stabbed.
Police have been told two men – aged 45 and 48 - were involved in an altercation, before the younger man allegedly stabbed the older man in the leg and fled the scene.
The 48-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics, before being taken to Tamworth hospital in a stable condition.
Oxley police were called and set-up a crime scene.
Following investigations, about 8pm the 45-year-old man handed himself in to officers at Tamworth Police Station where he was arrested and charged with wound with intent, common assault and breach of bail.
He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today on Wednesday.
Police will allege the pair are known to one another.

A MAN has been stabbed in a Christmas Day confrontation in Tamworth.
Detectives were combing the scene of the stabbing at a hostel in Johnston Street in North Tamworth after the incident occurred about 2.30pm.
It’s understood the victim was stabbed in the leg after an argument broke out.
Police and paramedics were alerted and the man was taken to Tamworth hospital.
He was expected to undergo surgery for the wound but it was unknown what condition he was in.
Police set up a crime scene but no arrests had been made on Christmas night.
