Inspired by that happening, when all four grades were scheduled for No.1 Oval on the same day, West Tamworth and Bective-East have turned their round of matches in a gala day.
West Tamworth president Kristian Grattan said a number of players would get the chance to play on No.1 Oval for the first time – himself included.
“It’s a great idea – just to get the kids to have a game of cricket on No.1 Oval,” he said. “A lot wouldn’t have had the chance to play there.”
“I’ve played cricket in Tamworth for 12 years and I’ve never had a game on No.1 Oval,” he added. “So I’m pretty excited about it myself.”

The fourth-grade clash will start at 10am, with first grade scheduled to commence at 7pm. Barbecues will be fired up, Grattan assured. “It will be good for the club, and good for cricket,” he said.
In first grade, both Wests and Bective will be looking for their first T20 win of the season, after two rounds of the competition – with the sides second last and last, respectively, on the overall ladder.
Grattan admitted that it was a “big loss” losing in-form opener Daniel Collinson, who injured his finger in round one of the T20s and will be sidelined for several weeks.
“That hurts us a bit,” he said. “But I think the guys are going well – I think they’ll come together strong for the rest of the season.”
