On Tuesday, the dam hit 41.9 per cent which means only 1909.5 megalitres of water stand between Tamworth and having level one restrictions enforced.
Given how rapidly the levels have fallen through 2018, Tamworth Regional Council could be forced to pull the trigger on restrictions in about three weeks.

Water director Bruce Logan has scheduled a media conference for Thursday morning and was unavailable for comment on Tuesday.
The last time Chaffey’s level were this low was July 11, 2016.
Elsewhere in the region, Nundle remains on level three constraints which bans the use of all sprinklers and limits residents to 15 minutes of outdoor watering with a handheld hose.
Manilla has level two restrictions in place, while Bendemeer will move to level one on December 24.
When Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal are moved to level one, it will see outdoor watering times reduced to a two hour window and outdoor surface and vehicle washing can only be done with a high pressure cleaner.
