Run by Zonta, the awards encourage people to raise up women who have made an exceptional contribution to the community in business, community or culture.
It’s about promoting equity for women but also recognising the men who have stood by women in the fight for it, Zonta Club of Tamworth member Deb Maes said.
“The theme this year is ‘#balanceforbetter’ and my professional background is in mindset, whatever we put our attention on we strengthen and grow,” she said.
“These awards can be a powerful way to wake up the community to the contributions of women.”
“We want to shine a spotlight on the quiet, undervalued or previously unacknowledged achievements of women and men in our community, work that often flies under the radar.”
There are six different categories women can be nominated for, to capture the diverse contributions of women in day-to-day life.
For the first time the Tamworth Zonta Club has linked up with the 2340 Big Band for a performance titled Leading Ladies.
It’s where the awards will be presented next year, and Tamworth Regional Council mayor Col Murray officially opened nominations on Wednesday.
