Whilst unveiling concept plans for Inverell’s new $9 million police station, Mr Marshall said he was keen to see a few kennels thrown in the design.
“It’s been an ongoing lobbying process with the police commissioner and deputy commissioner with the support of Superintendent Scott Tanner,” Mr Marshall said.
Mr Marshall said Inverell and Moree have used the dog unit, based in Tamworth, multiple times during the past two years.
“We have a strong evidence base now to say we could use the dog unit here. Inverell, in my view, is the right spot to put a dog unit as it is in the geographic centre of the New England Police District.”
Mr Marshall said, with fingers crossed, he would be able to deliver good news before tenders for the new station went out.
“The dog unit is a great resource for local police and would give them every resource needed to keep the community protected and safe,” he said.
