Tamworth rescue unit instructor Callum Dickson said that the refresher course is a result of recent world events, where paramedics have been needed in high risk situations.
“We train in different skills every month like ropes, car accidents, water rescues and these days this is just one of them,” he said.
Trainer Matt Pepper said the main reasons for these operations is to support police during high risk events, as well as respond to terrorism incidents or intentional mass violence.
“We identify injury profiles experienced both through military and civilian context, and ensure that we have the ability to very rapidly treat those life threatening injuries as close to the event as we can.”
