TOURISM opportunities in Manilla are sitting pretty with an extra $150,000 to expand the showground’s facilities.

It’s hoped new, movable seating will bring greater events to the country town.
A resident himself, Tamworth Regional Council councillor Jim Maxwell said the upgrade is part of a larger plan to improve visitation to the region.
He’s also the president of the Manilla Pastoral and Agricultural Association.
“Every country town needs every dollar they can get, and we have a few projects we’re going after in the next council meeting that hopefully we can talk about as well,” he said.
“The aim is to get people here and keep them here to spend a few dollars in the town – it’s a win-win for everyone.”
The Manilla Showground is used almost every weekend for horse events because of its relaxed camping facilities.
But it’s not just the show society that benefits, with the portable seating able to be used by a number of community groups in town.
The project will allow more involvement with new exhibits and competitions like dog trials and the rodeo Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said.
“Manilla is a great spot and I think there’s a vibe about Manilla, there’s a good feeling,” he said.

The $156,000 came from the state government’s Infrastructure Grants program and was announced on Monday.
