Tamworth flyer John Porch has crossed for a hat-trick against Canada as Australia had a day one clean sweep at the Cape Town Sevens, to top their pool and book a quarter-finals spot against New Zealand.

In the 29-15 defeat of Canada, Australia’s second match, Porch combined with Lewis Holland to open the scoring for the Aussies in the first 30 seconds of play, with the Tamworth product accelerating down the right-hand side of the field to score.
Porch crossed for his second try right before the halftime hooter, and Australia led 24-0.
The hard work kicks off tomorrow, in what will be a difficult quarter-final.

There was no stopping Porch when play returned, with the speedster jagging a hat-trick and putting the Aussies well on top.
Australia beat Scotland 26-14 in their first match, before downing Wales 21-14 in their third match.

Australia head coach Tim Walsh said: “Across the squad we worked hard in those games and concentrated on winning the moments we had to in order to get the results,” he said.
“The hard work kicks off tomorrow [Sunday] in what will be a difficult quarter-final. We’ll rest, recover and make sure we’re prepared for what day two throws at us.”
Australia take on Dbai champions New Zealand in the quarter-finals at 9:04pm (AEDT) on Sunday.
