TRC has stated that it will install the Tamworth Chamber of Commerce on a committee to be formed. When questioned about possible conflict of interest the General Manager, Mr Bennett, said “that is a matter for the individuals concerned”. Does council understand its obligation relating to conflict of interest?
TRC has failed to fully inform owners of 1828 affected properties of meetings or provide proper details of the proposal. Meetings held at the drought ravaged towns of Manilla, Barraba and Nundle rejected TRC’s proposal.
On 5th December 2018 there were three meetings held at the Passchendaele Room adjoining the Town Hall. TRC could not produce a business paper at any meeting to show even the most fundamental income and expenditure amounts.
On 5th December Mr Bennett showed a series of unreadable blurred slides. As justification for seeking the levee Mr Bennett said that TRC had one of the cheapest rate structures in NSW. He failed to point out that all councils have different needs which will cause rate levels to vary from one area to another.
If this dangerous proposal is approved the flood gates will be open for all councils to follow.
Councils were not set up to go into business they should stick to what they are supposed to do.
