THE New England Highway remains closed in both directions on Wednesday morning following a two-truck crash north of Scone.
The incident occurred about 3.20am, one kilometre south of Parkville.
Following the crash a man in his 40s was trapped inside a vehicle and emergency services worked to free him.
He was treated at the scene then taken by ambulance to Scone Airport where the Westpac Rescue Helicopter met paramedics on the tarmac.
He was flown to John Hunter Hospital with suspected spinal and pelvic injuries.
The highway is expected to be closed for several hours to allow a recovery of the two vehicles, along with a complex clean up operation.
Diversions are available for light vehicles only.
