A MAN charged with stabbing another man on the doorstep of an Armidale unit has fronted court for the first time.
Shane Con Hollis appeared in Armidale Local Court accused of one count of reckless wounding.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge with magistrate Michael Holmes ordering detectives to compile a brief of evidence into the case.
Detectives allege the 45-year-old stabbed a 24-year-old man in the hand on the doorstep of a Brown Street unit shortly before noon on November 22.
The alleged victim fled to nearby Bunnings to raise the alarm. He was taken to Armidale hospital and underwent surgery.
Police allege the pair are known to one another and the incident was not random.

Two crime scenes at the unit and the edge of the store were cordoned off and both were examined by police and forensic crews as part of the investigation.
Hollis remains on conditional bail to reappear in the same court in January.
As part of the 45-year-old’s bail, he must report to police daily, must not approach the victim or any witnesses, and is prohibited from going within 200m of where the incident occurred.
