The TAFE NSW Aboriginal Learning Centre threw open the doors to the local community for a Christmas celebration, complete with Santa, the Birrelee Macs dancers, Buddy Knox, Danielle Fogg and a Tamworth High song group.
TAFE Aboriginal Engagement officer Simon Taylor said that while it was nice to hold an event for no other reason than to bring people together for a good time, a chat and something to eat, he hopes it might attract more indigenous people to the education system.

“We often weigh in to a lot of issues, so thought it would be good just to have a celebration and good time,” he said.
“We have this beautiful building, and want to use it to show our ongoing support to the community.
“At the same time Aboriginal people aren’t as engaged with the education system as we would like so it is a way to show them that TAFE is the place to come, and it is OK to come here.”
