The Leader met exclusively with renown country music artists at ABC Studios in Ultimo.
Hosted by Adam Brand and Amber Lawrence, the awards spanned 15 categories from Male and Female Artist of the Year to Alt Country, Contemporary Country and Traditional Country Album of the Year.
“One of the most exciting aspects of the country music industry right now is that we have an incredibly strong field of both emerging and established artists who are making their mark on the world,” Country Music Association of Australia chairman Dan Biddle said.
“Whether you’re a fan of alternative country, contemporary country or traditional country styles there is something for everyone and the music coming out of Australia is world-class.”
With four nominations for her hit song The Campfire Song featuring Alan Pigram, Chambers and The Fireside Disciples are up for Traditional Country Album of the Year, Country Music Capital News Group or Duo of the Year, Regional Australia Bank Collaboration of the Year, Heritage Song of the Year, APRA AMCOS Song of the Year, CMC Video of the Year and Single of the Year.
The news comes after Chambers was recently inducted into the prestigious 2018 Australasian Country Music Roll of Renown in January and the youngest female artist to make it to the ARIA Hall of Fame.
Country rock band, brothers and childhood friends The Wolfe Brothers have gone from strength to strength with their fourth album Country Heart nominated across five categories.
The boys are up for Contemporary Country Album of the Year, Country Music Capital News Group or Duo of the Year, APRA AMCOS Song of the Year, CMC Video of the Year and Single of the Year.
Hot on their heels are husband and wife duo Adam Eckersley and Brooke McClymont with four nominations for their debut album together Adam & Brooke.
The pair are vying for Contemporary Country Album of the Year, Country Music Capital News Group or Duo of the Year, APRA AMCOS Song of the Year and Single of the Year.
And, recorded in Nashville, Adam Harvey’s latest album The Nashville Tapes has landed him in the running for four Toyota Golden Guitar Awards in Traditional Country Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Heritage Song of the Year and Regional Australia Bank Vocal Collaboration of the Year alongside Lee Kernaghan for their song Three Rivers Hotel.
Fresh from his show in Tamworth earlier this month, Andrew Swift has made a mark on the industry with his second album Call Out for the Cavalry nominated for Alt Country Album of the Year and Male Artist of the Year with longstanding favourites John Williamson, Travis Collins, Adam Harvey and Graeme Connors.
Swift is also nominated for Regional Australia Bank Vocal Collaboration of the Year with bold beauty Catherine Britt.
Both Swift and 2018 Toyota Star Maker winner Brad Cox, Tori Foryth, Imogen Clark and winner of The Voice Judah Kelly are up for Qantas New Talent of the Year.
As strong as ever, Mr True Blue John Williamson’s latest album Butcherbird has picked up nominations in Traditional Country Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Bush Ballad of the Year and Heritage Song of the Year.
And, with The Brave and the Broken, Travis Collins is nominated for Contemporary Country Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, CMC Video of the Year and Single of the Year.
With the number one most played song on Australian radio across all genres, Morgan Evans’ latest single Day Drunk is nominated for APRA AMCOS Song of the Year, CMC Video of the Year and Single of the Year.
Other nominees include Allan Caswell, Beccy Cole, Bennet, Bowtell and Urquhart, Catherine Britt and The Cold Cold Hearts, Dean Perret, Fanny Lumsden, Graeme Connors, Hillbilly Goats, Jayne Denham and Troy Kemp, Jeff Brown, Karl Broadie, Kristy Cox, Lindsay Waddington, Missy Lancaster, Montgomery Church, Mustered Courage, Rex Dallas, Runaway Dixie, The Weeping Willows, Tommy Emmanuel and Troy Cassar-Daley.
