This week Tamworth Regional Council voted in favour of a draft policy which could see residents have their recycling and green waste collections suspended if they’re found incorrectly using the bins four times.
Council voted unanimously for the policy with mayor Col Murray labelling it a good move.

“I don’t like to see us solving problems with further layers of rules, but I don’t see that we have any other option at all,” he said.
The proposal will go on public exhibition for 28 days with public feedback encouraged.
Under the scheme, council staff or contractors would be able to hand out infringement notices for bins which are grossly “contaminated”.
On the fourth infringement, the bin will be confiscated for three months.
Cr Murray said it was disappointing a “small percentage of bin users choose to ignore what’s a basic social requirement”.
About 10.3 per cent of material collected in yellow-lidded bins is non-recyclable.
