The fire started at roughly 4.40am on Barwan Street (Newell Highway) – between Namoi Street and Wee Waa Road – at the abandoned property.
Fire and Rescue NSW Station 399 Narrabri attended the scene after an Armtrol Security officer saw the blaze and called 000.

Station commander Shane Bradford said when firefighters got to the weatherboard residential home “the roof was fully involved with fire with flame heights of approximately four to five metres through the roof”.
He also confirmed there was no one found on the property and that the home was full of asbestos. The hazardous materials unit was on hand to deal with the asbestos.
Traffic is being diverted through Namoi Street and Saleyards Lane and it is hoped the Newell Highway will be reopened by 9.30am.
