The foyer of Ray Walsh House has been transformed into a recycling education hub until Friday 23 November, and a new education booklet is available for residents to collect as part of council’s Let’s Talk Rubbish campaign.
Last year, the region’s residents placed 4,546 tonnes of recyclable items in their yellow bins and at rural landfill recycling points. Council is keen to reduce the average contamination rate from 10.3 per cent to below the state average of 7.2 per cent by introducing residents to likeable recyclables and encouraging less of the mess.
Council’s Waste Sustainability Officer Angela Dodson will be on hand at Tamworth, Nundle and Barraba Council offices throughout the week to speak to anyone wishing to learn more about the best ways to recycle. Yellow recycling bags will also be available for collection.
National Recycling Week is a good reminder for us to think about the different ways we can reduce waste and recycle the right way.

“National Recycling Week is a good reminder for us to think about the different ways we can reduce waste and recycle the right way,” she said.
“We’ll be visiting schools and speaking to the next generation about the importance of recycling – everyone has a role to play.”
“It’s really important to make sure the correct items go into your yellow bin to ensure recycling is not contaminated and sent to landfill,” said Ms Dodson.
