After failing to host their second annual general meeting, outgoing president Gary Lavender has called an emergency meeting next week.

If no one puts their hand up for the role on Tuesday, the Inverell Hawks will be forced to fold, impacting both the senior and junior clubs.

After five consecutive years Lavender has decided to step away from the presidency role inviting fresh faces and ideas onto the committee.

“It’s disappointing we can’t find anyone to put their hand up for the president’s role. We can’t go any further with our AGM until we have appointed the position; we even had a second attempt on Sunday but it was unsuccessful,” he said.

Lavender said a fair bit of decision-making was involved in the role, however the job load was always shared between executive committee members.

The emergency meeting will be held at the RSM Club on Tuesday at 5.30pm with Group 19 calling for committee submissions, coaching and player interest by Wednesday.

“This year was a big struggle pulling together player numbers and interested coaches. Everyone put their hand up really late which left it too late to organise proper sponsorship and I think we’re heading down the same path for 2019.

“It is a shame and honestly we have a good little junior base and if we can’t get up and running that means there will be no juniors as far as Glen Innes.”

Lavender hoped it wouldn’t take the club folding for 12 months for people to realise volunteers were needed to run a successful rugby league club.

“We’re looking for fresh faces. It’s been the same core group putting in the hard yards for the last five years and we need people to put their hand up.”

“We’ve been quite a successful club in previous years, so this is disappointing,” he said.
