A NEW multi-purpose fitness room and new fitness equipment will be some of the benefits for the Gunnedah PCYC thanks to a funding boost from the state government.

The $92,710 grant comes via the state government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund and will help the club build the facility, as well as encourage locals to get active.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the funding would allow the community to take part in a variety of PCYC programs.
“Upgrades to the PCYC in Gunnedah will include construction of a dedicated multi-purpose fitness room with new equipment to run YouthFIT, Active Kids and fitness classes for all ages,” Mr Anderson said.
“Community engagement is so important and I must say it is something the Gunnedah PCYC does very well. I’m sure that once complete this facility will be a major benefit to the whole community.”

Once complete, the new facility will offer opportunities for locals of all ages to take part in physical activities and education.
“The PCYC in Gunnedah has been a part of the community for the past 50 years and is an important part of the town’s sporting and social network,” Mr Anderson said.
“There is going to be a lot of benefits for the community when this construction is complete.
“It will encourage locals who are looking to build fitness, self esteem and wellbeing, to access their local club and get involved.
“The Gunnedah PCYC identified the key areas that needed to be fixed and I was happy to support them and fight hard for the money.”
Gunnedah PCYC manager Michelle Gosper said the club was “grateful for the support”.
“As a club we have been working really hard over the past year to develop a variety of programs to offer to the community,” Ms Gosper said.
“Our out of school hours and vacation care has really grown over the last 12 months, and now it will be so pleasing to also offer new fitness programs to the community.”
The funding announcement comes shortly after the club launched their new Fit for Life program in conjunction with NSW Police.
“The Fit for Life program has just kicked off and already we are seeing some strong interest,” Ms Gosper said.
“It is focused at youths at risk and it has been really pleasing to see such a strong turn out of kids who are coming off their own bat. The program is all volunteer based, which I think is what makes our club so special.”
Construction of the new multi-purpose fitness room is expected to begin soon.
