MORE than a thousand homes have lost power and traffic lights are blacked out after an outage in West and South Tamworth.
Essential Energy reports a blackout saw 1,027 customers lose power about 3.30pm on Wednesday.
Tamworth police are directing traffic at the intersection of Bridge and Belmore streets after the traffic lights started flashing.
Motorists are being warned to exercise caution and allow extra time with officers at the scene.
Essential Energy said crews were investigating the outage and expected to restore power as soon as possible.
The cause of the black out is unknown but the outage was an “unplanned” disruption to services.

In separate incidents, crews are also investigating blackouts in the Ebor area which has left 250 people without power while 11 homes lost power in an area between Tingha and Bundarra on Wednesday afternoon.
