The club recently distributed bags of donated hybrid forage seed among 45 local farmers.

These farmers were approached individually and seed was targeted at some landholders that may have previously missed out on most forms of drought assistance.

Boggabri Rotary Club president Mal Donaldson said the club had received support from Boggabri Pursehouse Rural.

“We were really well served by the whole team from Pursehouse Rural and their manager Robert Tumbers, who assisted with handling and storage of the seed,” Mr Donaldson said.

“The donation of forage seed was extremely well received, and farmers were encouraged to sign a visitors book where they have thanked Pacific Seeds for their generous donation.”

The Rotary Club put on a free BBQ lunch for all the farmers, while the district’s Local Land Services veterinarian distributed drought feeding guides and livestock health advice.

“There was a very positive vibe on the day which is a welcome boost to local morale,” Mr Donaldson said.

“There have also been some timely storms in the area and a high percentage of the farmers will be able to plant immediately so the seed distribution was timely.”

Mr Donaldson said other local Rotary Clubs were also distributing donated seed.

“The Rotary Clubs of Narrabri ,Gunnedah West and Coonabarabran have all currently distributed seed as part of the same project,” he said. 

“Each club has used their their own local methods of distribution, including the provision of spend locally debit cards.

“Over 120 individual farmers have benefited from this very practical donation.”
