The $365,000 is for better lighting and equipment to create a therapeutic atmosphere to help with the healing process and recovery for patients in Banksia.
The Hunter New England Mental Health Services in Tamworth have talked to patients, carers, family members and staff at Banksia and have been in agreement with what is needed to help with the recovery process.
Why should the patients be denied better conditions while we are waiting for a new and better Mental Health Unit.
It will take at least 3 years or more to plan and build a new and better mental health unit for Tamworth.
There are many processes to be completed and we want the very best Mental Health Health Unit that is possible.
We will be consulted throughout the planning process from Hunter New England Mental Health Services.
Two members of our group have been asked to be on the committee for the co-design.
The Tamworth Mental Health Carers Support Group have worked very hard to achieve this outcome and with the help from Kevin Anderson who has been very supportive from the very start when we first started talking about the petition which was very successful and we collected over 13,000 signatures and with Kevin Anderson’s help was delivered to parliament.
