The irrational thoughts and behaviours of Barnaby Joyce are well documented but it is unbelievable that the Federal Nationals could even contemplate resurrecting him to party leadership and Deputy PM. Their re-election prospects are already wobbly at best but that would be political suicide. Haven’t they taken anything from the Wentworth disaster?

Michael McCormack isn’t the most inspiring leader but, as well, he isn’t a self-promoting white-anter either. And, in a party that has developed a reputation for internal cannibalism and more regard for themselves than for their voters there is a desperate need to promote a public image of unity.
As for Mr Joyce, the fact that he can believe the public has forgotten his disgraceful behaviours of just ten months ago and are ready to accept him back is only evidence of the man’s delusional egotism. Just as importantly, though, is the fact that his personal beliefs on climate change, CSG, coal mining and water allocations, for starters, are hardly in the best interests of his farming constituency. Promoting him from the back bench would be a giant mistake by the Nationals and only validate their own dysfunction.
