To mark National Water Week, which started on Sunday, Tamworth Regional Council has launched a multimedia site to be used in schools across the region.

Students will have access to videos, graphics, virtual tours, a quiz and more on the water cycle, how dam water is treated at the Calala plant, and more.

Water sustainability officer Ian Lobban said it was all about educating future generations about the preciousness of water.

“We often taken for granted the leisure of being able to turn on a tap and have fresh water running at our fingertips,” he said.

One of the key focus areas is on residential water: the average home in the Tamworth region uses 40 per cent of its water outside.

“It’s crucial that we educate the next generation about where our water comes from and how it is treated so that we can continue our sustainable approach to water consumption,” Mr Lobban said.

“The development of this multimedia platform is just one way of encouraging young people to get on board, too.”

National Water Week is from October 21 to 27 this year, with the theme “Water for me, Water for all”. 

It encourages people to think about water usage every day and how to protect it for the future.
