The event will cater for 80 people, the menu featuring honey, pork, vegetables, herbs, cheeses, bread, fruit, eggs and condiments from within about 100 miles, or about 160km, of the town.
The guest speaker will be Melbourne University’s Energy Transition Hub senior adviser Simon Holmes à Court, talking on renewable energy.
Manilla Community Renewable Energy president Emma Stilts said the group had organised the evening with the support of Sustainable North West, Tamworth Regional Landcare Association and Northern Inland Regional Waste.
“It’s just a way of helping people recognise what food’s available in our local district, which is a more sustainable choice as there’s less food miles, and a great opportunity for people to come together and have a good night,” Ms Stilts said.

As residents continue to make steps towards making Manilla self-sufficient when it comes to energy, Ms Stilts said Mr Holmes à Court’s insights would be valuable.
“He has a really strong background in progressing renewable energy projects and also how to plan for our country to get there,” she said.
She said the renewables group had recently asked for expressions of interest from landholders with at least 5ha within 5km of one of the town’s substations.
“Our solar group would be hoping to enter into a land use agreement, so we can lease the land from that person for a period of up to 25 years.”
