Councillors will discuss the proposed $700 million project and vote on a submission to be made on the council’s behalf regarding the project’s environmental impact statement (EIS).

The project’s EIS went on public display on September 13 this year and allows for locals to have their say regarding the proposal.

If approved, the project is expected to create 500 jobs during construction, 450 jobs during operation and contribute $271 million in local wages.

The public submission period will close on October 25.

Also up for the council’s approval will be sponsorship of the 2018 Gunnedah Spirit of Christmas Fair.

Hosted by the Gunnedah and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the annual event will see Conadilly Street closed for four hours on November 30 for a community celebration.

“The fair is a fun, family-focused community event that provides an opportunity for the Gunnedah community to explore unique boutiques and stores, browse pop-up designer stalls and indulge in Christmas-inspired entertainment, food, performances and activities,” the council’s business papers read.

“The fair also will allow council to support and celebrate local business, community groups and special interest groups involved with the event.”

Councillors will vote on whether to support the fair which last year saw 25 local business open for business during the event. 

The council will host its October meeting on Wednesday from 4.30pm in the council’s chambers.
