My great grandparents WILLIAM & CHARITY MOORE were original settlers in that area and as a family we always understood that the Creek and the surrounding hamlet were named after our ancestors.
They are both buried in the Attunga cemetery in accordance with their wishes, as is their daughter Lydia Harwood and her husband Sidney Harwood indicating their strong attachment to the area throughout their lives.
The word moor refers to marshy, or water logged land certainly not indicative of the land around Moore Creek/Attunga area.
The Lands Dept have original maps with the holdings clearly marked with the names of those who were the earliest settlers in the district.
I would like to register my strong objection to any change to this name which has been in use for over 130 yrs or more.
(Mrs) Jan Wright (née Moore).
