With only eight players available this weekend, Walcha will combine with clubs from Armidale, Gunnedah and Narrabri to form the Walcha Barbarians team for the under 12s competition.
“That has been a great thing for us to continue because the junior rugby have joined teams quite frequently during our season so it is great to bring that together again,” Walcha junior rugby president Cameron Greg said.
“We are calling it the Walcha Barbarians but it is basically a Walcha team that has a lot of other players added it.”
The gala event aims to raise funds to cover registration costs of the country clubs invited for next year.
Greg said it is a “wonderful opportunity” for the players.

“It has been initiated under a bit of drought relief so they want to cover the cost of registrations for these country clubs they are hosting next year which would be an enormous gesture,” he said.
“In summary it is a really generous gesture that they have put together.
“It will be massively exciting for the kids, they are really looking forward to it.”
The weekend will include a number of rugby games, guest coaching spots by some of Australian rugby’s elite players, including former Wallaby Phil Waugh, relay races and kicking competitions, skills and drills run by some of the Women’s Wallaroos and a golden oldies clash.
