The former Red Devils junior and now Queensland native, will line up for Queensland Country when they tackle the NSW Country Eagles, and he can’t wait.

He still has a lot of family in the area, and since he learned he was in the squad he wanted to play in the fixture.

“I’m very excited. I haven’t played footy in Tamworth since I was nine or 10,” Wilson said.

Back then, he was just a kid with big dreams.

Now he is on the cusp of realising those dreams.

It has been a stellar year for the 18-year old and beyond what he could have hoped.

After only finishing school last year, he never imagined that he would be playing in the NRC.

”I was just hoping to have a good year at Brothers and play as many premier games as I could with Brothers,” he said.

“I ended up playing the full season of grade, that was good fun.”

It was a massive step up he said, and then again going from club rugby to the NRC but as was the case with Brothers the more games he has played the more comfortable and confident he has felt.

Part of the Reds 20s academy, Wilson said one of the areas of his game he really wanted to improve over the off-season was bringing a bit more physicality,

“I tried to put on a bit of weight and I reckon that’s helped a lot with the contact side,” he said.

He said it has been a great experience playing alongside, and learning off, the likes of Caleb Timu, Liam Wright and James Slipper.

Playing predominantly in the second row in his school days, Wilson has made the transition to the backrow this year and has seen good game time for Queensland Country.

“Obviously I was on the bench first four games.

“To get a start the last two weeks has been great,” he said.

They are coming off a big win over the Sydney Rays and have second spot in their sights.

They are currently third but with the top two sides due to clash this weekend, there is a chance they could finish second.
