The uncertainty that gripped the side before the start of last season, after the loss of key personnel, is back, Wests’ veteran batsman, David Mudaliar, has said.
He said the main contributor to the uncertainty was the loss of strike bowler Brock Ridgewell, the competition’s leading bowler last year, with 38 wickets at 17.82. Ridgewell is attending university in Sydney.
Given how well West Tamworth fared last season, exceeding expectations by making the preliminary final, the signs ahead of their season-opener against City United at Riverside 1 on Saturday may be a positive.
However, Mudaliar, who has handed to captaincy to Shaun Stevenson, expects the matches on Saturday to be called off due to the wet weather.

He said: “It’s a side that’s got some potential but there’s some holes in the lineup.
“We’re a bit light on with the bowling, and maybe lacking a little bit of experience. We’re just going into it without too many expectations.”
In the other games on Sunday, South Tamworth and Old Boys clash at Chaffey Park, and Bective East and North Tamworth meet at Riverside 2.
