The Attunga Down Under Rodeo Cowhide Drag plaque has stood proud on the wall of the Attunga pub, which Mr Miller owns, for two years now.

And he’s going for a third.

“There’s no skill, it’s just hanging on,” he said.

“It’s a matter of if you can hang on and find someone with a quick horse you’ve got a good chance.”

The Cowhide Drag is an Attunga special – a horse and rider throw a chain to the person being dragged as they lie on a cowhide, race around a barrel and cling on for dear life.

The team that makes it back fastest wins the title of champion, bragging rights and admiration of the town.

Attunga Rodeo organiser Jaimi-lee Brown said she gets a lot of spectators coming to town just for the drag.

"We’ve got a full rodeo program and this year we’re supporting R U Aware We Care because we’re a small community and lots of farmers are affected by the drought,” she said.

“We’re super lucky, we’re affiliated with ABCRA and our northern zone director has donated all the cattle for the junior steer riding events – we’ve been extraordinarily lucky to have that support otherwise we would not have been able to run the event.

“A lot of other rodeos are cancelling because of that reason.”

A whopping 1000 to 1500 people are expected to make it out to the action-packed event with more than 500 competitors taking part.

And, $5 from every adult and family ticket will go to the drought fundraiser, matched by the rodeo committee.

The Attunga Down Under Rodeo is on October 6 from 5:30pm at the Attunga Sports Grounds.
