The secretary-treasurer of Uralla United Cricket Club, Leigh Kelly, thought there were many things that were great about her, and one of them was that it is small club with a mixed bag of players, which is about to hold its annual Ladies’ Day on Saturday, October 13.
Kelly said Uralla would play a Twenty-20 match against the Walcha Colts, and any proceeds made from the day would be split between the McGrath Foundation and the Uralla club. It is something the club does every year.
The McGrath Foundation is named in the memory of Jane McGrath.
“Last season we had four junior teams and one senior team, which plays in the Walcha competition,” Kelly said.
“It’s a nice friendly competition and suits us pretty well. We have a home game every second weekend and we’re sponsored by the Uralla Golf Club, so it all fits in very well.
“It’s pretty social, we have a round of Twenty-20 and then we have a couple of rounds of 40-Over matches, so it suits everybody. We’ve got a ‘mixed bag’ of players and it’s a great club.”
Kelly said Ladies Day was a little bit special and would see a barbecue lunch cooked, prior to junior registrations from 11am until noon.
She said the club would like to see a few more younger players sign up for this year because for some of its mixed bag 40 overs was starting to be a bit of a haul.
Play in the main game will start at 1pm, and, just going on last year’s results, Kelly thought Uralla was in there with a good chance.
She was hoping Uralla’s population would rally behind the club and come out to enjoy a great day of entertainment at the Uralla Sports Ground opposite the Golf Club.
“We’re hoping to get a few people from Uralla who might just like to come up and watch,”Kelly said.
We’ve got a few raffles, a load of wood and a few other things, and we’re hoping to get a few ladies who don’t usually come to attend the day.”
