
A grant of $558,131 has focused the spotlight on ensuring there are well-lit sporting fields in Tamworth.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the promise of additional lighting will create an additional 2,400 available time slots for illuminated fields each year.
"This project is focused on increasing participation in organized recreation and gentle exercise by both locals and tourists in the Tamworth Region.
“It aims to provide infrastructure that will create significant opportunities for the region.

“The extra lighting proposes to illuminate six full-size sporting fields with 20 light poles and associated infrastructure.
“The project will help boost the liveability of the local community by providing opportunities to improve training and playing surfaces, provide illumination for sporting fields, attract new events, and increase festival camping security.
“The benefits of the lighting include an increase in the number of games and training sessions played at the sportsgrounds beyond current levels

"The installation of Sports Field Lighting infrastructure will benefit Oztag, softball, football, rugby union, rugby league, AFL, baseball and fitness trainers.
“These sporting fields are attended annually on average by 64,584 players for game day fixtures, 8,544 senior players for training and 10,400 spectators,” he said.
The infrastructure will meet a need of the community by:
- Increasing the number of additional sport matches and training played across the fields;
- Increasing the number of additional sport registrations and spectators annually utilising the fields;
- Ensuring a high quality playing surface year round;
- Providing the opportunity to increases the number and type of non-sports events; and
- Generating an increased sense of safety amongst campers during the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
